Exeter High School Student-Run Newspaper!
Social media is now one of the biggest ways people try to make money. Whether it be selling products, brand promotion, or just making content, social media allows people an unconventional way to get paid. That is what Dan Sarmiento has done. He started creating content on YouTube back in 2013, making cat and dog edits, and has now made it into his full-time career.
Sarmiento graduated from Exeter High School in 2021. His current channel started in 2017, making videos focused on Baseball. He was insecure about his channel but kept going due to his passion for his sport. He decided to play post-grad baseball at Bridgton University for a year before he commited to a 4-year college. He was able to use the podcast studio at the school and the new school also allowed for new types of content, as it had more resources. After his post-grad year, he committed to playing Division 2 baseball at Azusa Pacific University. After arriving at college, he knew it wasn’t what he truly wanted to do. So when he reached around ten thousand followers, he dropped out. He decided to pursue social media full-time.
His path to success wasn’t easy. Learning from his failure was something that helped him succeed. Working with Max Clark, a pro baseball player, was a catalyst for his own channel’s growth. His interview with Clark made people want to watch him, allowing him to gain a dedicated fan base. He knew he had to keep working hard and adjusting his content to what people wanted to see. He used other channels as inspiration for making content that would gain people's attention. Trial and error allowed him to find his niche. He believes this is the most important step to making content. Having passion allows for success. This passion led to him being able to get paid partnerships, tour different schools, and make money doing what he loves.
