Reading Wrapped
By Emily Houde
2025 was the first year where I stuck to a solid reading goal and met it by the end of the year. My goal for the year was 20 books, which I hit exactly. I tracked my books using an app called fable and it really held me accountable for my goal. Here are some of the best and worst books I read.
Worst
The First Love - Beverly Lewis
Originally I never finished this book because I thought it didn’t count towards my yearly count, but it ended up being in the list. Since I am stubborn, I finished the book on December 30th. It's a book about an Amish girl, which is one of my favorite things to learn about. It ended up just being a boring book overall. I wouldn’t have finished it unless it was on my yearly list.
Teddy Mars: Almost a World Record Breaker - Molly B. Burnham
This book was one of my favorites in late elementary school. I reread it as part of a summer reading challenge. It was good, but it wasn’t the same as when I was a kid. This was to be expected, but it ruined the book for me slightly.
Best
I Know You Do - Georgette Deloriad
This was a psychological thriller about a dying woman trying to take back control of her life. The book took a minute to get into, but there were lots of plot twists that really made me get into the book.
A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini
I never would have thought that I would rate one of my school books high on my list. This book was about two women living in Afghanistan under a controlling husband. While the overall book wasn’t anything special, the ending tied everything together really well and left me feeling complete after finishing.
Favorite Authors
Jenny Han: The Summer I Turned Pretty series
Colleen Hoover: Reminders of Him and It Ends with Us
Overall, I would definitely recommend setting a reading goal if you like reading. This goal has forced me to read many books and explore different styles.
Next year, I have a goal set for 22 books. It's not much higher, but it is definitely a manageable goal.
Happy Reading everyone!
