Try a New Music Genre: Electro Swing
Most people listen to music daily, especially with how much technology has evolved. However, often we will fall into listening habits of just one genre, artist, album, or song on repeat. While it can be fun to listen to your favorites over and over, sometimes finding a new genre to fall into brings an exciting bit of spice to your music library. Allow me to introduce electro swing.
Electro swing is a music genre that combines swing jazz with hip hop or house music, creating a thrilling mix of sound effects and instruments. It can be difficult to find electro swing musicians, so to get you started I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorites!
First up we have Jamie Berry. Being one of the more well known musicians in the electro swing community, his albums are full of both collaborations and solo songs. My personal favorite of his would be “Lost in the Rhythm” featuring Octavia Rose as the vocalist. It’s fast paced and exciting with a strong bass line that keeps the listener tapping their feet through the whole album. Every one of his works is full of energy and life that never fails to make me hum along.
Next on this list is a fairly popular music YouTuber, Or3o. In 2020 she released an entire electro swing album called Clover with the help of many other musicians. Not only does this album feature both instrumentals and songs with lyrics, but it also tells a bittersweet story of love, hope, faith, and luck. This album is truly a work of art that can have me dancing to one song and crying to the next. I strongly encourage you to watch the music videos along with listening to this album, because they are full of beautiful animations that enhance the story of Clover even more. This isn’t the only electro swing work Or3o has created either, as several of her solo works fall into the genre as well.
Last but not least, we have Pisk, an electro swing artist that I only discovered recently, and I have been loving every minute of his songs! Similarly to Jamie Berry, Pisk will often collaborate with vocalists to make songs, but he also makes his own instrumentals. I particularly enjoy his song “Black Coffee.” It features Nat Gonella on vocals and has both an exciting beat and small scat sections. Pisk’s music has slowly worked its way into several of my playlists simply for the fast-paced, instrument-heavy backing tracks. When you add vocals to the equation his music becomes an utter masterpiece!
Every single one of these artists create amazing music; you never know, you might love what they make if you give them a try. Electro swing is such a fun genre, and I do not see enough appreciation for it. I hope that you can enjoy it as much as I have!
