Superman is one of the most iconic and classic superhero movies since the first 1978 film directed by Richard Donner and the first Superman comic book in 1938. Since then, there have been several movies, shows, and comic books dedicated to this character. Now, this might be a hot take, but the new Superman movie is the best depiction of Superman in movie form. The Superman movie has had reviewers and movie critics going mad since its release in theaters on July 11, 2025. It is directed by James Gunn, who is well known for The Guardian of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, and is supposedly directing the upcoming Super girl film. When I first watched the movie, I had such a strong feeling about it. David Corenswet was such an amazing actor and perfectly depicted the nerdy, awkward, but good-hearted character known as Superman. Superman has always been a character in which the heart and simple theme of treating people kindly has been heavily prevalent, and Corenswet captured this well. The cinematography of the movie was just amazing too—the lighting and dynamic poses/shots made me feel like I was right there. There is so much contrast between the sweet/domestic scenes of Lois and Clark and the intense fighting scenes. I have one critique of this movie and that is I want to see more of this depiction of Superman, I would love to see this cast in show form. I felt with how many compelling characters there are like Jimmy Olson we didn't get to see enough. The soundtrack and dialogue alone make me feel so hopeful; it felt so natural and fit each scene so well, giving the movie a distinct sound and look. I had one question on my mind when I left the theater: are you a punk rocker? Because I know I am.
