FRC Team 9474 - Red River Resistance Robotics
We just made it to Vancouver! It is gorgeous! Compared to Manitoba, the weather is warm and beautiful. We are here because of an internationally recognized robotics competition at the Canadian Pacific Coliseum.
Day 1:
We arrived in Vancouver, half of us went sightseeing and the other half went with Mme Dariene to the Coliseum to set up our pit. Eventually, we all end up back at the hotel, fed, and ready for bed. Curfew was at 9:30, so at 11:30 in Manitoba, I fell asleep the second my head hit my pillow.
Day 2:
Unfortunately, waking up was not easy. Today, there were practice matches which we could not attend, because we didn’t pass inspection. We resigned to fixing it the next day, and went on a downtown boat tour.
Day 3:
We passed inspection! Qualifications started and without any practice, we adopted the motto: “Practice while we play!” Things broke, we fixed them, more things broke, and we fixed those too! We went out afterwards for mocktails and great food, then off to bed. We earned our sleep.
Day 4:
Qualifications ended with our team in 27th out of 44. We were not picked for playoffs, but we watched and enjoyed this time together not having to sweat over the robot.
Day 5:
Back in Manitoba. We are so grateful for the opportunity, but also, happy to be back home.

Madame Brigitte's class has been busy preparing for our upcoming Ancient Societies classroom transformation! Students have been researching different civilizations and learning about daily life, inventions, and structures from the past while organizing their ideas to share their learning.
We also welcomed WISE to our classroom, where students learned about different Indigenous structures and how they were designed to meet the needs of people and their environments. Students read a scenario, determined which structure would work best by following a plan, and then constructed their own Indigenous structures using what they learned.
In writing, students created a comic about being okay at something and having fun while figuring it out, and they also wrote “I Am Brave” poems for Pink Shirt Day, reflecting on kindness and standing up for others.
It has been a busy and fun time in our classroom!
