EHI honors Truth and Reconciliation Day (Sept 30) with Orange Shirt day . This year Orange shirt day took place on Tuesday October 1 for all K to 12 students.
We would like to extend a big thank you to Cookem Daisey for coming to our school and speaking with us about truth and reconciliation. Cookem Daisey brought items to show our youngest learners how indigenous people learn and she was able to have great discussions with all ages of students. We presented her with a gift of tobacco, as well as cloth to show our respect and appreciation of her and her knowledge. Please come back soon, Cookem Daisey!
The tradition of the Grade 12 hike continues
On Monday September 23, our grade 12 students spent the day hiking at the Spruce Woods Provincial Park.
Mme Diane's grade 1/2 class has been busy working on reviewing concepts and learning new things. We have been working on number sense, patterning, learning new words and reading. We have also been learning about our community.
September flew by for Mme Ashley’s 7/8 students as they settled into their new routine, diving into reading and writing in both French and English. On October 2nd, they had the pleasure of welcoming Glenna, who captivated them with her stories and experiences. Her insights surely added a deeper level of understanding in terms of Truth and Reconciliation.
Wow! What an exciting month it has been! The Grade 3/4 students in Madame Brigitte's class have been fully immersed in various engaging and creative activities. From fun morning tasks and interactive centers to writing autobiographies and crafting narrative stories, they've been hard at work. They’ve also enjoyed reading groups, exploring Canada, and celebrating Indigenous culture through a totem pole activity. Of course, we can’t forget the highlight of the week: Karaoke Fridays, a fun and lively way to encourage reading. September was a blast, and we can’t wait to see what October brings!
The twelfth-grade math students are studying for an assessment on statistics. Les élèves de mathématiques au quotidien de la 12e année étudient pour une évaluation sur les statistiques.
The biology students are conducting an experiment to better understand osmosis and cell membranes. Les élèves de biologie font une expérience pour mieux comprendre l'osmose et les membranes cellulaires.
Students from Grades 3-8 have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather this month, putting in hard work as they prepare for their upcoming race on October 10th. The Grade 3-4 athletes will tackle a 3 km run, Grades 5-6 will take on 4 km, and Grades 7-8 will push through a 5 km race. After starting with interval training, they are now focusing on improving their pace and mastering breathing techniques. While the training has been challenging, as Michael John Bobak wisely said, 'All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.'
BUS SAFETY:
Bus Ridership & Evacuations
Over the past two weeks, our bussed students have engaged in important discussions with their bus drivers and EHI admin about bus ridership expectations. This initiative aims to promote safe behaviors and ensure smooth bus runs for everyone. Please see the attached Bus Ridership pamphlet for more information.
All students, both bussed and non-bussed, are required to participate in a bus evacuation drill twice a year. While bussed students' evacuation drills have been occurring throughout the last few weeks, our non-bussed students will be practicing their evacuation on October 9. We thank you for your support in keeping our students safe!
