In the Maternelle M2 class, we've started writing on a daily basis in a fun and engaging way! One of our favorite activities is something called interactive writing. This means the teacher and students work together to write words and sentences. We think of the words, stretch them out, and write them together. Interactive writing is teaching our students to hear and break apart the sounds in words, to match sounds to letters, and to practice spelling simple words. It also helps build their confidence. When students can write a word or sentence, they realize, “I’m a writer!”
Following an invitation from the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada, École Héritage students from grade 7-12 recently participated in the unveiling of the groundbreaking Dimensions in Testimony gallery, a Holocaust education initiative in partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation.
This interactive exhibit uses advanced technology to allow students to engage directly with recorded testimonies from Holocaust survivors. Our students were the first in Manitoba to explore this remarkable software, gaining a powerful and personal connection to history.
This unique experience provided an invaluable learning opportunity, allowing our students to understand the Holocaust in a deeply impactful way. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada and the USC Shoah Foundation for this significant initiative.
Students from Family Studies (Grade 11/12) have the opportunity to care for robotic babies that need to be cared for like real infants. Students spend a school day and a weekend caring for their baby by burping, feeding, changing, and rocking. These babies help reinforce ideas taught in class about child development and the responsibilities of parenting.
As part of our Social Studies class, the grade 3/4 classes had the opportunity to participate in Student Vote. Student Vote is a hands-on learning experience designed to empower students with the habits of active and informed citizenship. More than 750,000 students were expected to participate in this nationwide parallel election. Participating schools received ready-to-use learning materials to teach about government and democracy, and facilitate research into the parties and candidates. Ballots, ballot boxes, and voting screens were also provided to coordinate Student Vote Day. Student Vote Day was held at the school on Monday, April 28th, 2025, in honour of the 2025 Canadian federal election.
Jump Rope for Heart was a huge success! The school raised $3860 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and had the opportunity to “pie” their teachers in the face! We celebrated by moving our bodies and practicing our healthy habits. Thank you for those who contributed to this important cause!
