Important Library Update for the School Community
Starting after our return from spring break, library services for EHI students will be suspended from April until the end of June. This temporary closure will allow us to prepare and pack the many EHI books in anticipation of the public library’s closure and the relocation of our school library at the end of June. While the books will not be accessible during this period, the library will still be available as a working space for students. Looking ahead, the library will be converted into a much-needed classroom space next year.
Please note, all library books should be returned by March 28. After this date, no new books will be available for borrowing. Textbooks can be returned at the end of the school year. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Thank you for your continued support!
This past week
This week in music class, it was all about St Patrick’s day! We learned all about Irish dance, music and culture. Here’s a quick video of the grade 1/2 class performing the dance: « Rakes of Mallow ».
The 7-12 musicians are preparing for their big trips in April and May. We’re polishing our pieces to wow the judges at the competition. Get ready MooseJaw and Chicago, here comes EHI students!
The Kindergarten class has been getting very creative and building leprechaun traps.
The art room has been buzzing with creativity over the past month! Students of all ages have been busy exploring new techniques, learning about inspiring artists, and expressing themselves through a variety of projects.
In celebration of Festival du Voyageur, students engaged in weaving projects and created fun yarn hats, connecting art with cultural traditions. Valentine’s Day brought an explosion of creativity as students explored different ways to play with color and incorporate hearts into their artwork.
We have also been diving into the works of influential artists. Younger students have been inspired by Emily Carr’s expressive landscapes, Alma Thomas’s vibrant, abstract paintings and Vincent Van Gogh’s beautiful brushstrokes implying movement and emotion. Our study of Inuit art has allowed students to explore traditional and contemporary Indigenous artistic practices, deepening their understanding of storytelling through art.
In high school, students have been practicing their acrylic painting techniques while applying the principles of art to their compositions. We have also begun studying artworks found in the Art Institute of Chicago—a perfect introduction before our visit this April!
With the warm weather on our heels, the grade 5 and 6 classes just squeezed in one of the last days for the Parc Carillon skating trail during their afternoon physical education class. Yes, of course they were care-free and silly, but also so very helpful and encouraging to those that were feeling uneasy from skating for the first time.
A big thank you to our PAC for purchasing this new stand up freezer for our breakfast program!
