love's labour's lost and a lady in waiting

Major: Theatre

Hometown: Coral, MI

ABSTRACT

Rebekah’s capstone project is a study of the character Rosaline from William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost. This project includes historical research into Shakespeare, his life, and the time period and culture when the play was written. It will explore historical topics, such as the role of a lady in waiting and the hierarchy of the French courts during the sixteenth century. It specifically details the preparation work that goes into performing a role, which Rebekah will be undertaking in the fall of 2021. There will also be a section reflecting on Rebekah’s time at college and the process of writing this project. The entire project is a culmination of the classes Rebekah has taken at Rochester University. These include such classes as Play Analysis, which taught her how to look into the authors’ intent and find the meaning in a play or character; Movement for the Actor and Voice for the Actor, which showed her how to physically and vocally connect with a character in a unique and specific way; Acting 1, which gave her the foundation for all her acting work; Acting Shakespeare, which challenged her to dive into what it takes to bring the Bard’s work to life and find the clues he gave us. Rebekah will use all this accumulated knowledge to showcase what she has learned as it relates to her major, Theatre. All that Rebekah puts into this project is an illustration of how her education has prepared her for the future; not only in the theatre world, but the rest of the world as well.
