ABSTRACT

Little Smarties Daycare is committed to providing exceptional care to every child that comes into the building. This project, titled “Let’s Play”, is the latest initiative and will help create an outdoor play space for the infants and toddlers in the center. Outdoor play is important for children’s development. It can help with large motor skills and also encourage socialization with other children. Ideas like problem-solving, safe risk-taking, and empathy are only a few of many skills children can learn while playing outside. It is recommended that children spend “at least 30 minutes of structured (adult-led) physical activity and at least 60 minutes of unstructured (child-led) physical activity each day” (Kinsner, 2019 p. 3). This plan includes building a new play area just for the infant and toddler classrooms. This space will also serve as an outdoor classroom and give teachers expansion on learning. This proposal requests $10,000 to achieve this goal. The funds will be used for new developmentally appropriate equipment, storage area for toys, child-sized picnic tables, and outside flooring. The daycare is also going to be funding professional development for all teachers and staff members so they can get the most out of the new outdoor space. Project “Let’s Play” will benefit the children, families, and educators at Little Smarties Daycare.
