ABSTRACT

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a cognitive deficit that is characterized by memory impairment, as well as changes in multiple other functional areas regarding cognition. AD is the most common form of dementia and affects nearly 35 million people worldwide. Not only does the disease have an impact on the individual, but it also impacts those around them, from family to caregivers. This project is focused to give an insightful overview of Alzheimer’s disease to better understand its symptoms and stages, causes, diagnosis, preventative care, and treatment. There are many factors that contribute, in varying degrees, to the development of AD. Some of these factors include low life fulfilment, head injury, and genetics. Although there is currently no cure for the disease, there have been an increasingly large number of studies aimed at finding preventative measures and the cure for Alzheimer’s. Despite the lack of funding, ongoing studies have come to the conclusion that both diet and exercise have been found to be the two most promising preventative care actions taken to inhibit or delay the development of the disease.
