ABSTRACT

Project SMART by Bailey Copp is a technology grant that has been designed to enhance the student’s learning experiences at Copp’s Bright Minds Learning Center. Project SMART will allow for Copp’s Bright Minds Learning Center to incorporate three SMART Boards with the intent to enrich their curriculum. The problem Copp’s Bright Minds Learning Center is faced with involves the enrollment of at-risk youth. The term “at-risk youth” is used to describe children from low-income families who are more likely to start school with limited language skills, have less parental support with homework, and deal with more emotional and social problems that interfere with learning (Social Solutions, n.d.). Research has proven the use of smart technology in the preschool classroom can increase student engagement, raise test scores, improve student learning, enhance literacy, boost attentiveness, and increase comprehension (Cox, 2019). Project SMART will enhance the teacher’s ability to teach and enhance the student’s ability to learn because a SMART Board provides the opportunity for the accommodation of all learning styles (Cox, 2019). Project SMART will improve the quality of Copp’s Bright Minds Learning Center’s program, provide equal learning opportunities for children of all walks of life, and further the educational outcomes of the at-risk youth enrolled in this center.
