ABSTRACT

This project is a grant proposal that will focus on securing sensory pathways for use at Apple Tree Early Learning Center. The grant is titled “Sensory Path: It Just Makes S.E.N.S.E. (Students Engaging in Nourishing Sensory Experiences).” A sensory pathway is a series of floor decals that are applied to the flooring in a hallway. The decals are pictures and/or symbols that show children how to move. Children may run, jump, skip, hop, or push against the wall as they move through the pathway. Moving through the pathway will assist students in expelling excess energy, regulating their moods and emotions, and staying focused in the classroom. All preschoolers will benefit from the use of sensory pathways at Apple Tree Early Learning Center, including, but not limited to, children who have experienced trauma, children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and students who have been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Teachers and students alike will notice the benefits of using the pathways throughout the school day.
