Traumatic experiences or chronically stressful events can impact individuals in various ways during childhood. Easterseals of Michigan is a company that focuses on enhancing children and other individuals to strive to reach their full potential in life. Easterseals of Michigan’s Trauma Assessment Team and Services directly examines the impacts of trauma and chronic stress in an individual’s behavior, developmental, attachment, and life skills. Each of the children are examined differently depending on age and type of trauma. Services from this team include the initial ethnographic interview, the assessment day, and then the suggested resources following from the assessment that will help them to cope with the experiences they were exposed to. An internship with this team allows individuals to experience each part of the overall process that these clients are taken through when in services. This includes doing background projects for the company that examines multiple teams/ locations, opening charts for new clients, scheduling for interviews and assessments, doing the ethnographic interviews, and being a part of the assessment day. Interns are given an inside look and a new perspective as to what trauma work entails in the field of social work. It allows growth within the individual interning as well as growth within the other group members who are a part of the team. It is an experience that individuals will be tested during as well as cherish when looking back.
