“Impact on Student Learning '' by Griffin Burton was designed to foster learning for students at different academic levels through the teaching process in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom. This classroom was comprised of students 3 to 5 years old with cognitive impairments. Assessments were given throughout the learning process to adapt instruction. The pre-assessment was given prior to teaching the unit. The assessment was composed of twenty-two questions which focused on concepts of print. The twenty-two concepts involved identifying the front of a book, back of a book, the title, letters, words, punctuation, etc. These concepts are crucial for students to know in the beginning years as a reader. The pre-assessments were analyzed and the data was used to guide instruction. For two weeks the unit of specialized lesson plans were taught to students. Throughout the unit, various forms of assessment were used to adapt to the needs of the students. By the end of the unit, the students completed the same assessment from two weeks prior. A comparison of the pre and post tests were done and indicated a positive impact on student learning.
