ABSTRACT
Small Hands Learning and Development Center (SHLDC) is a non-profit organization in Detroit, MI, geared towards Kindergarten Readiness through early childhood education. SHLDC is committed to providing an enriching and nurturing experience for young children where they can thrive developmentally with the appropriate practices geared towards Kindergarten Readiness. SHLDC has a program objective to enhance Kindergarten Readiness through integrating high-quality curriculum materials and supplies. SHLDC is seeking a grant to improve curriculum materials and teaching supplies that are essential to better supporting this community of children. SHLDC’s objective is that by the end of the yearly quarter, each child will grow and mature emotionally, physically, socially, intellectually, and most importantly, educationally on an individual basis. SHLDC strongly believes that children learn best in a safe, age appropriate and engaging environment with materials that will stimulate their brains. SHLDC enhancement of curriculum materials and supplies are based upon the latest research on curriculum materials to bridge the gap between Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. To assess the initiative, SHLDC plans to conduct intensive observation and participation of student engagement with the new curriculum and materials. SHLDC is requesting funding in the amount of $15,000 for one year to implement state of the art curriculum materials and teaching supplies. These supplies are essential in providing a high-quality program for young children to cultivate their gifts and challenge their minds. SHLDC is seeking to improve the class environment by incorporating materials that are current and recently developed. These materials and supplies will help to aid in providing children with equitable access to high-quality preschool as well as promoting and ensuring Kindergarten Readiness.
