Anna Green’s field placement was in Brighton Michigan with non-profit Hearts Connect, Resource, Inspire (Hearts CRI). The goal of Hearts CRI is to connect with foster care families and provide them with resources that help them with the children in their care. The main role in the internship was for Anna to learn more about how children self-regulate, and how that is often a skill absent from children that have been placed in foster care at a young age. Implementing activities that promote self-regulation and the natural minimization of cortisol levels in a classroom setting was something that occurred. Providing parents with the knowledge of how to do activities that promote wellness for the children in their care was an additional desired outcome. The effectiveness of such activities was limited due to time limitations. As a longitudinal type of study, it would have benefited from an increased number of weeks with self-regulating activities implemented with the children interacting.
