ABSTRACT
Emotional intelligence became a popular topic to research after 1995 when psychologist Daniel Goleman wrote a book entitled Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ. The concept of emotional intelligence has successfully explained favorable outcomes in academic, professional, social and interpersonal life. The idea of emotional intelligence started a movement in the following years of psychologists researching and investigating emotional intelligence and leadership within organizations. The purpose of this study is to explore the possible correlation between a leader’s emotional intelligence and an employee’s longevity within an organization. An 11-question survey created by the researcher was given to employees that work within a department that deals directly with the hiring, benefits, and engagement of employees. A total of 52 participants completed the survey and Pearson correlation and T-tests were used to identify any significant relationships.
