The Academic Center for Excellence, or the ACE, is the academic support and resource center at Rochester University. Here our peer tutors provide one-on-one and group support to a diverse group of students in a variety of academic disciplines.
The ACE award honors our students who have been the embodiment of servant leadership as they worked thoughtfully and intentionally to support their peers in their academic studies and coursework. Our honorees have worked tirelessly to encourage and support their peers; we could not do the work that we do in the ACE without these student leaders. We are grateful for the incredible impact each of them has had in this community.
Victoria Bliss is an elementary education major with a focus in Language Arts. She has been a kind and compassionate tutor for our students, approaching all of her sessions with positivity and grace. Victoria is also the president of Omicron Omega Zeta, RU’s sorority; a Kibo Fellow; and a member of the Programming Board. She serves with a variety of community organizations and plans to work full time as an elementary school teacher upon graduation.
Camden Little graduates with a major in cellular and molecular biology and a minor in chemistry. Camden has worked to help our students understand their science coursework with a smile and sense of humor. She has been a member of Omicron Omega Zeta for the past two years and will complete further training at a medical laboratory science school through Ascension.
Carmyn Lorenc is an accounting major with a minor in business management. Carmyn has provided thoughtful support to our students as she has helped them navigate the ins and outs of assignment requirements. She was a volleyball athlete for four years and an editor for the Shield, RU’s independent student media. She has volunteered her accounting skills with the AIDS Society and looks forward to seeing what’s in store for her upon graduation.
Erin Walters is a theatre management major and has been involved in six Rochester University theater productions working in a variety of roles including stage manager. Erin has been an incredible asset to the ACE and has truly made it a welcoming and encouraging place for students to work. Erin volunteers as a creative painter at a local elementary school and hopes to do technical work for a large theater.
Miranda Wolanin graduates with her degree in nursing and is the president of the Student Nursing Association. Miranda has enthusiastically served our students with knowledge and experience, helping them to grow in their study skills. She has been an athlete on RU’s cross-country team and has volunteered with numerous community events including with the medical staff of the Special Olympics and Detroit Free Press Marathon. Miranda plans to work as a pediatric or ER nurse with the goal of continuing her education to become a clinical faculty instructor.
