Abstract
Media exposure has risen over recent years. This is partially due to the easy accessibility of it now. Media exposure and body image has been shown to have a negative relationship. This study investigates deeper into this relationship by regarding personality types, specifically extraversion and neuroticism, and testing the hypothesis that higher media exposure will be correlated with lower body image only in individuals who score high on extraversion and neuroticism. Extraversion and neuroticism, media usage, and body image were measured using the Big Five Personality Type Test, Social Media Addiction Scale, and the Body Image Questionnaire. The study consists of 80 participants (74 females, 6 males) who completed the survey. The results deny the hypothesis that higher media exposure is correlated with lower body image only in individuals who score high on extraversion and neuroticism. The results help shed light on how personality influences the relationship between media exposure and body image.
