ABSTRACT
Over the years, there has been an increase in the average life expectancy rate. For this reason, it is important to understand which factors have an impact on an elderly individual’s wellbeing. One of the circumstances that dominates an individual’s wellbeing is their living environment. This study examines whether elderly individuals have higher psychological well-being while living in senior living communities or in private residency. 33 participants ranging between the ages of 65 and 100 are involved in this survey. They were asked to complete two surveys: a demographic questionnaire and a Psychological Well-being Assessment. With the results of the participant’s surveys, a t-test was conducted to see the correlation between individuals’ psychological well-being and their living environment based upon five relatable subscales. The subscales consist of one’s autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relations with others, purpose in life, and self acceptance. The following research suggests that an elderly individual’s psychological well-being is influenced by their environment and accessibility to various life resources.
