ABSTRACT
At Brain Builders Early Childhood Educational Center (BBECEB), outside physical activity is part of the daily curriculum and intentional learning. The Get Outside and Play Safe grant proposal will guarantee this will continue. Obesity and related health issues in children is and has been a medical concern for many years. Children sometimes can be heard saying that they did not want to go outside. The children of today would often rather stay inside. The purpose of the $5,000.00 grant is to repair the outside physical learning and play space. The licensing guidelines require (1) one hour of outdoor time within the school day. The repairs on the equipment will impact daily usage. As of now, there are only three operating swings out of ten. The paint is peeling off in spots and some equipment needs adjustments to function properly. It is also proposed that two of the swings will be modified to allow children with non-sitting capabilities or any disability to be able to use the swings. In the outdoor area there is a space to plant a garden and for students to learn about gardening. A new barrier fence and dirt are needed for the children to begin planting. Having the opportunity for students at BBECEB to Get Outside and Play Safe and learn while doing it will help with their brain building. The BBECEB staff is required to access children’s developmental growth at least three times a year, and that data is used to individualize children’s needs. Physical and Science are two of these areas that will greatly benefit from the Get Outside and Play Safe grant funding. The repairs will also allow for the future farmers and scientists at our school to take their first steps.
