4th-6th grade went on a Galactic Quest with 4H's STEM Challenge. Each week they rotated through one of the four tasks: Stellar Optics, Cipher Space, Astro Adventure, and Cosmic Claw.
Stellar Optics explored principles of light and refraction using lenses and telescopes to explore constellations. They finalized the unit by making Thaumatropes & Pin Punch outs.
Cipher Space explored concepts of cybersecurity using Caeser Ciphers to encrypt and decrypt messages.
Astro Adventure was a board game where students attempted to collect resources, situation cards, and added spacecraft to their fleet as they explore around planets.
Cosmic Claw explored hydraulics using water and syringes to operate a claw to be able to complete agriculture challenges with legos. Students used the engineering design process to add to their claw to complete the tasks with only being allowed to use paper and tape.
1st-3rd grade has been exploring about sheep and how to care for them. They have trimmed hooves, practiced eating hay with bottom teeth and a dental pad, pinned the wool on the sheep, traveled a marble through all four compartments of a ruminant stomach, put on spy glasses to see 300 degrees around us like a sheep, practiced bandaging, injecting medicines, using a stethoscope, and sewed sutures. Students final projects is understanding wool to clothes journey. They have felt raw, greasy wool, washed wool, and wool roving. They watched someone spin wool roving into yarn and then they dyed fiber and used that fiber to create a weaved ornament.
7th & 8th grade explored with Makey Makey's between ISAT testing and their final Ag project. They explored with squish circuit mazes. 7th grade also made game controllers.
Student have been able to learn about many aspect of Agriculture Literacy, thanks to a special grant from White-Reinhardt, Bonnie Plant's Cabbage Program, and D&B Supply sponsor of raised beds for our pollination station.
4th-8th grade participated in the Algae Foundation's Algae Academy.
3rd grade was able to explore the FIRST Lego Explore Challenge: Cargo Connects using the Lego We-Do Robotics. 2nd grade was able to explore the FIRST Lego Explore Challenge: Playmakerss using the Lego We-Do Robotics. 1st grade explore circuits and engineering design with Makey Makey Units: Squish Circuit Maze, Buzzer Games (Operation & Ball Toss), and Game Controllers.
Teams had to choreograph and program the robots to music for our Robotics Unit Finale.
