Science:
6th graders investigated the geological processes the formed the Grand Canyon and learned how the fossils located in different layers of rock help us understand the geological history and evolution of the area. For their final project students created 2 comic strips detailing the processes of the rock cycle and fossilization.
Math:
For 6th grade our time in 2nd quarter was spent on 2 units that were very similar. Introduction to Ratios and also Unit Rates & Percentages. These are 2 of my favorite ones to teach because I love statistics and being able to figure out different amounts of items. We used book reading and a Halloween Fundraiser Party to help us navigate through what they mean and how they can help us.
How does comparing quantities describe the relationship between them?
How can ratios be used to make comparisons and predictions?
How can we compare different sizes or amounts of real-world quantities?
How can we communicate about a quantity that is growing or shrinking?
