In this project, students are tasked to create a science fiction world for a video game company. Their planets are inspired by extreme ecosystems and organisms on Earth. The goal is to amaze the head video game designers by describing a fascinating and scientifically-inspired world, including what the environment is like on that planet and how the different organisms have evolved to survive there. The final products are a web-page describing their Evoworld in detail as well as a presentation that they will present to the 4th-6th grade building. The 4th-6th graders are the head video game designers in this setting and will vote on which world they want to use.
Students read Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. While they read, students take notes on literary devices used by the author (detail, imagery, figurative language).
Students will watch Jurassic Park and take notes on film-making devices used by the director.
Students will then compare the story notes and film notes and decide which told the story best: the book or the movie.
Students will write a 5-paragraph argumentative paper defending their choice. Students will have to include evidence to support their claims.
STUDENT EXAMPLES *will be updated after project deadline*
In History, we focused on interconnection during the Medieval ages and how interconnection is still around in the world today! The students worked to create a New Student Guide for a school so that new students can find themselves more connected with their peers, teachers and community.
Students took what we learned about interconnection and relationships from the Medieval Era of History and created a New Student Guide for students to build relationships and interconnection with their peers, teachers and community.
