How can we manage the technology life cycle?

Science

A computer contains many pieces that must be manufactured and put together. Think about all of the components - parts - in all of the computers in the world that make computers work. What raw materials are needed to make the components? How much waste is created? What impact does that waste have on our environment? In this project, students developed and shared an engineering solution to reduce the impact of technology on society and the environment. We specifically focused on the waste created during the etching process of circuit boards. Students conducted a series of experiments to learn the current methods for waste disposal pros and cons. From there, students were able to design their own method, test it out, and assess their results. The final product was a presentation to "sell" their idea and was given in front of two Micron employees via Google Meets.

After conducting research, students wrote 5-paragraph informational essays about their topic.

Students created dioramas to portray the potential damage done to the environment of their choice.

History

In History students debated the phrase, "All Men Created Equal" and discussed if this was a true statement for its time and if their are still issues going on in the United States. Students worked to gather research and create online posters discussing an issue of their choice.

Students researched and gathered information on a current events issue. They applied their information to a online poster they created.

Math

The students used technology to show how we can use transformations to show movement of objects. We discussed how transformations are used in conjunction with old technology in film making and other fields.
