Science:
4th grade studied the different ways animals use their senses to communicate such as warning colors and patterns, bioluminescent flashes, sound, and body language. They then ran a simulation to find out whether having a more distinct flash pattern would help fireflies find their mates. Using data from the simulation students then wrote evidence based claims for or against more distinct flash patterns helping fireflies find their mates.
4th grade student practiced sending a string of signals using a flashlight to communicate image patterns to their partners. They had a Zoom meeting with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida to find out more about how dolphins use their senses to communicate and how the loss of Winter's tail would have affected her ability to communicate with other dolphins.
