Q3: What impact does a single drop of water have on the world around us?
Students researched the interactions of Earth's 4 spears and how they interact to shape our planet. They chose a site to research and created presentation.
The students wrote a persuasive speech about one way humans impact water on our plant. The students chose their topic from a list which included: water pollution, air pollution, farming pollution, deforestation, water abstraction, or their own idea. The students then asked questions relevant to their stance on the issue and then researched the answers to these questions. They then incorporated this information into their persuasive speech. The speech uses figurative language to convince the audience to take a certain action and/or believe a certain viewpoint. The students consulted and use outside sources to support their opinions and produce a list of sources. Finally, students presented their persuasive speech to classmates.
Whole Number Multiplication & Division Learning Goal: In this unit, students multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using place value understanding, properties of operations, and the relationship between multiplication and division. They use the standard algorithm to multiply multi-digit whole numbers and partial quotients algorithms to divide whole numbers up to four digits by two digits. They then apply these skills as they solve problems involving volume.
Place Value Patterns & Decimal Operations Learning Goal: In this unit, students use place value understanding to round, compare, order, add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.
