Car Safety Personal Service Announcement! (PSA)
The students read informational articles that includes visual elements (diagrams, charts, tables, images) related to Car Safety. The students determined the main idea and key details from the articles, then created a PSA (public service announcement) that summarizes what they learned and promotes the article's ideas.
PSA Posters for PiSTEM students about car safety!
The students used the information they gathered previously for their digital PSA's and created posters with their groups to inform the students and families at Pistem of the importance of car safety and tips on ways to stay safe.
Large Numbers and Decimal Fractions Learning Goal: In this unit, students learn to express small and large numbers, from hundredths to hundred-thousands. They learn to write tenths and hundredths using decimal notation and to work with whole numbers within 1 million.
Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement Learning Goal: In this unit, students make sense of multiplication as a way to compare quantities. They use this understanding to convert units of measurement and to solve problems about measurement.
Angles and Angle Measurement Learning Goal: In this unit, students learn new language for describing parts of geometric figures and practice identifying and drawing them. They also learn to talk about angles, measure their size, and draw angles of different measurements.
Properties of Two Dimensional Shapes Learning Goal: In this unit, students classify triangles and quadrilaterals based on the attributes of their sides and angles. They also learn about lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures. Students then sue these attributes of figures to solve geometric problems, including those about perimeter and area.
