Science:
4th grade's Second Quarter project focused on sound. Students investigated what causes sound and how sound travels through different mediums such as wood, air, and water. They came to understand that sound travels in waves and is caused by vibrations. For their final project students created instruments of their own design that could produce a minimum of 3 different pitches by adjusting the length, tension, or size of the materials used. Some students worked individually and others worked in groups.

Math:
For our 2nd Quarter unit we investigated Fraction Equivalence and Comparison. We talked about what fractions were equal to each other and how to find equivalent fractions. We also learned about comparison and determining less than or greater than.
How are physical representations and diagrams used to represent fractions?
How do I determine where a fraction is located on a number line?
How do I determine if fractions are equivalent?
How do I use benchmarks and visual representations to determine equivalent fractions?
How do I use visual representations or a numerical process to compare fractions?
For our second unit of the quarter we continued with fractions and did Fraction operations. Adding, subtracting as well as some multiplication. How do we get common denominators and what does that mean?
How can I apply my understanding of multiples of whole numbers to multiples of fractions?
How can I apply my understanding of addition and subtraction to include fractional quantities?
How can I apply my understanding of equivalence to add units of tenths and hundredths?
How do I solve problems involving fractional quantities?
