What community helper vehicle can I design that I see in my community?
Student's started the project by learning about the many communities they are involved in. The students learned that their communities started with the people that live in their house, then the people who live on their street or subdivision. Next community was the city they live in, following the state they live in. After the state community comes the continent they live on and finally their planet.
As a way for the students to remember everything, they made community flip books that they took home to be able to show everyone the different communities they learned about.
The first part of their project was to learn about community helpers.
Their questions for each community helper are:
where does the community helper work?
what is their community vehicle?
what tools do they use to complete their role?
what is their role in the community?
After learning about each community helper through multiple forms of books, the students cut out pictures of the types of tools that community helper might use to complete their job. Those pictures got glued onto a page in their community helper booklet.
