Q3: How can we find the best place for a plant to grow?

Science Connections:

PBL Unit 3 Projects - 1st

ELA: First Graders learned about different soil types and which ones grow the best seeds. We drew and labeled the parts of a plant and read text to learn more about how plants grow.

Writing Journals

Math Connection: First grade looked at their driving question and brainstormed other questions that could include math in answering the driving question. The top paper is their driving question and the bottom poster is of the questions they created.

They discussed the idea of using subtraction to determine how many of their seeds sprouted. They thought that the number of seeds that grew could help them know if one kind of growing medium was better than another. They also felt that it was important to measure the growth of their plants. They used rulers and their science journals to document their plant's growth. They collected this data into a data chart and then made picture graphs.
