How do we manage disease in the world?

Science

In this project, students learned about diseases and how to tell them apart from each other. Then they began the autopsy process to determine if their fetal pig has the disease that they chose to do their research on. The principal aim of an autopsy is to determine the cause of death, mode of death, manner of death, the state of health of the fetal pig before he or she died, and whether any medical diagnosis and treatment before death was appropriate. After students went through the autopsy process and created their report, they prepared a presentation to present their findings.

English

Students are introduce to the topic of disease around the world through informational text and videos. They will learn about diseases that have affected humans throughout the course of history.

Students will choose an incurable disease for their project. They will research the origin of the disease, the impact it has had on populations, and current attempts to find a cure.

Students will present their findings to their peers and a "panel" of investors who will be awarding one student one million dollars to the organization of their choice to expand research on their chosen disease in the attempts of finding a cure.

History

In 9th Grade, we studied the concept of Total War for WWI, WWII and Modern War and how that theory has changed throughout history. The students applied their understanding through Op-Ed pieces they wrote and answered the challenging question, Has War Changed? Click the hyperlinks below to view some of our students writing!
