Wind Power at Pistem
Did you know “wind turbines were the source of about 8.4% of total U.S. utility-scale electricity generation.”(eia.gov) wind power is energy made by the wind with the help of windmills and turbines. Windmills were originally invented by the dutch. Specifically Daniel Halladay in the 19th century. If we were to use wind power how would it benefit PISTEM(Project Stem Acadamy)?
Wind power is renewable. renewable energy is energy that can be reproduced in a short amount of time. this includes hydropower, wind power, and solar power. a lot of energy today is Non-renewable. Non-renewable energy is energy made from coal, oil, and other nonrenewable resources that take over millennia to form. wind energy also won’t pollute the air and water like fossil fuels do, people at Inspire clean energy said: “Wind energy produced through wind farms does not pollute the earth with nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide or sulfur dioxide, smog, or acid rain, which many other forms of traditional fuels do.”
There are many benefits to using wind power at PISTEM. First, it’s better for the environment according to the Energy Information Administration, “Wind turbines do not release emissions that can pollute the air or water” (www.eia.gov). wind turbines also don’t need water to cool down. they reduce the energy produced by fossil fuels which are toxic to the atmosphere, according to Energy Information Administration, “they do not require water for cooling. turbines may also reduce the amount of electricity from fossil fuels, which lower total air pollution.”(www.eia.gov)
Renewable energy will help you save money. It’s more cost-effective in the long run. According to Nature’s Path Organic, “in the long run, renewable energy is more cost-effective than non-renewable energy.”(Naturespath) the cost of wind power is 30 dollars per hour but coal and other non-renewable energy costs about 30 dollars more per megawatt-hour According to Nature’s Path Organic, “the cost of wind power was $30-60 per megawatt-hour. Large-scale solar costs are $43-53/MWh. Coal power costs at least $60/MWh.”
How would wind power benefit pistem? Wind power is renewable, cost-effective, and good for the environment. if we don’t do this the ice caps could melt, the oceans will become more polluted, and we might run out of resources to make energy.

What would happen if we continue to use energy that was harming the envierment? If we don’t change to a cleaner form of energy it will continue to harm the earth and everything on it. Alternative energy is energy made from renewable sources like sunlight, water, wind, limber, etc. Solar panels collect the sun’s atoms then it strips of electrodes on the panels take the power generated within the sun’s rays and make it into energy (Office of energy efficiency & renewable energy). If we were to use Solar how would it benefit pistem?
Another great reason for installing solar panels at Pistem will help reduces greenhouse gas effects. according to EnergySage “By going solar, you can reduce the demand for fossil fuels, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and shrink your own carbon footprint. In fact, just one home installing a solar energy system has a measurable effect on the environment.” This supports my answer because it shows us how it helps reduce greenhouse gasses
One benefit of having solar panels at Pistem is they create energy that is safe for the envierment. According to energy saver, “Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of solar that is generated will substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions like CO2, as well as other dangerous pollutants such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Solar also reduces water consumption and withdrawal.” This supports my answer because it shows us how it is helping the envierment.
Another great benefit of getting solar panels is the government gives you tax incentives. “The United States federal government has been offering an income tax credit of approximately 26% of the overall project cost for solar panel installations. This federal tax credit has been offered since 2005 and was set to expire in 2007, but instead has been extended each year until now,” says Sun Badger Solar This supports my answer because it shows us what happens when you have solar panels.
If we were to use Solar how would it benefit pistem? They create energy that is safe for the envierment, it will help reduces greenhouse gas effects, and the government gives you tax incentives. If we continue to use bad energy we will harm the envierment. But if we install solar panels would make the government tax incentives, It would be good for the earth, and It would help reduces greenhouse gas effects on the environment.
