CONSUMER MATH - 03201 - 1 CREDIT
Prerequisite: 2 credits in Math
Credit: Math
Description: Math will focus on everyday applications of mathematical principles. We will learn to compute wages given different methods of being paid, practice planning for food and clothing costs, and make wise financial decisions in purchasing food and clothing. We will also examine the pros and cons of buying and renting living space, calculate the various costs associated with managing a household and buying and maintaining a car. We will explore the various costs and options for home improvement and plan for expenses related to traveling.
FUNDAMENTALS AND APPLICATIONS OF PROBABILITY - 03320 - 1/2 CREDIT (SEM) *
Prerequisite: Open to students in grades 9-12
Credit: Elective
Description: Probability is an essential tool in applied mathematics and mathematical modeling. In this course, we will cover the basics of probability, compound probability, independence, permutations, combinations, probability using combinatorics and binomial expansion. We will also analyze how probability applies to real world applications such as popular board games, card games and games of chance to reveal the odds players receive.
INTRO TO LOGIC & MATHEMATICAL PROOFS -03325 - 1/2 CREDIT (SEM) *
Prerequisite: Open to students in grades 9-12
Credit: Elective
Description: In this course, we will cover various techniques of mathematical proof, logic, set theory, functions, and equivalence relations. This course is designed to bridge the theoretical gap between lower-level computation-based math classes and upper-level proof based math classes. It will aid students to further develop analytical, critical-reasoning and problem-solving skills.
STATISTICS AND ANALYTICS IN SPORTS- 03630 - 1 CREDIT *
Prerequisite: Successful Completion of Algebra I
Credit: Math
Description: The field of mathematics is extensive and continues to expand. Sports in particular are one field that has seen mathematics increase rapidly due to stats and analytics. In this course, we will cover statistical concepts through the realm of sports including both team and individual sports. This course is designed to illustrate the real-world connection that mathematics has in various sports and how it is a growing field with many career opportunities. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to statistics, data collection, central tendency, z-scores, probability, odds, combinatorics, analytics, and sports.
MONEY, MARKETS & MATH - 03302 - 1 CREDIT
Prerequisite: 2 credits in Math
Credit: Math
Description: This course builds on students' prior knowledge of algebra concepts, while learning the value of money, building a business and practicing real world scenarios. Topics included are banking, investing, consumer credit, income taxes, employment basics, and household budgeting. This class reviews and strengthens algebraic and problem solving skills, while learning selected advanced mathematical topics.
INTRO TO BUSINESS - 03326 - 1/2 CREDIT (SEM)
