SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS, TREATMENT, AND RECOVERY -  07313  - 1/2 CREDIT (SEM)

Prerequisite: HealthOpen to students in grades 11-12

Credit: Elective

Description: This exciting new health education elective course will provide students with an in-depth understanding of substance abuse, addiction, recovery, and the rapidly growing fields of prevention and treatment. A variety of instructional strategies and community partners will provide a vital foundation for students that are interested in pursuing a career in health, education, or human services. Students that successfully complete this course and its requirements are eligible to earn a certificate of completion that satisfies the first section of the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) license through the New York State OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports).  Enrollment in this course is only open to juniors and seniors that have successfully completed Health 07300 or Health 07310.   While it is not required, it is strongly recommended that students take College Health prior to this Substance Use Disorders, Treatment, and Recovery elective.
