Prerequisite:  Concert Band

Credit: Music

Description: Symphonic Band is an ensemble intended for students who demonstrate an interest in improving their performing skills and technical proficiency through performance in band.  Symphonic Band consists of daily rehearsals and weekly group lessons.  The primary goal of this course is to foster the growth of the individual musician as an ensemble member and enhance his/her knowledge of music as an art form.  Mature rehearsal skills, command of individual parts, basic theory knowledge, and good sight-reading skills are crucial. Private lessons are recommended.  Music performed at concerts will be selected from the standard repertory.  Outside performances are part of the course and curriculum.  Performances include, but are not limited to, concerts and community events.  Honors credit is available to students who prepare, perform and receive a score of 90% or higher on a NYSSMA solo.  Seniors that successfully complete this course can obtain as many as 2 credits from Westchester Community College at a reduced tuition.
