College / AP Calculus

COLLEGE CALCULUS  - 03411 - 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: Credit in Pre-Calculus 100 or 101

Credit: Math

Description: This course consists of a full school year of work that is comparable to calculus courses in colleges and universities. This course involves a rigorous study of functions, graphs, limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications. This course ends in a local exam. Graphing utility technology is an important component of the course. Students that successfully complete this course can obtain as many as 4 credits from Westchester Community College at a reduced tuition.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS AB  - 03605 - 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: Credit in Pre-Calculus 101

Credit: Math

Description: An Advanced Placement course in Calculus AB consists of a full school year of work that is comparable to calculus courses in colleges and universities.  It is expected that students who take a course in AP Calculus will seek college credit, preferential college placement, or both, from institutions of higher learning.  The Calculus AB curriculum includes a rigorous study of functions, graphs, limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications.  Graphing utility technology is an important component of the course.  Students are required to take the Advanced Placement exam which is given in early May.  For information regarding AP exam dates and fees, please visit the College Board website at http://www.collegeboard.org

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS BC  - 03610 - 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: Credit in Pre-Calculus 101 with Teacher Recommendation.

Credit: Math

Description: Calculus BC is the most rigorous calculus course offered by the College Board.  Participants must be willing to pursue mathematical excellence and should, therefore, earn college credit and preferential placement from highly accredited colleges and universities.  The BC curriculum includes more depth of study and many topics beyond those offered in AB Calculus, including parametric, polar and vector functions, polynomial approximations and series, and numerous additional applications of the derivative and integral.  Students are required to take the AP exam which is offered in early May.  For information regarding AP exam dates and fees, please visit the College Board website at http://www.collegeboard.org

CALCULUS LAB  - 03408- E ½ CREDIT

Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in any Calculus class

Credit: Math

Description: This lab provides an opportunity for students to develop a deeper and more thorough understanding of the course content through new and unique learning experiences. Students will apply the content and skills that they have learned to practical and real-world scenarios. Through participation in these labs, students will develop and strengthen the skills that will lead to a strong foundation in the course.  The intention of the lab is to provide students a better opportunity to achieve their best score on college level assessments.

COLLEGE BUSINESS CALCULUS  - 03715- 1 CREDIT

Prerequisite: Credit in Pre-Calculus 100 or 101

Credit: Math

Description: : Topics include differentiation and integration of algebraic, logarithmic, and exponential functions from a non-theoretical point of view. Business and economic applications are emphasized and include: break-even points; cost-benefit models; supply and demand curves; marginal cost and profit functions; growth and decay models; optimization techniques; average cost; elementary differential equations; and Lagrange multipliers.  With the successful completion of the course students will be able to: Logically formulate mathematical variables and equations to create mathematical models representing business problems so that calculus can be applied to achieve an optimal solution.  Students that successfully complete this course can obtain as many as 4 credits from Westchester Community College at a reduced tuition.
