Credit: Fine Arts
Description: Philharmonic Orchestra is offered to students with previous orchestral experience and new students alike. Students looking to learn an additional instrument are welcome to join this class to cover the fundamentals of violin, viola, cello, or string bass. The Philharmonic Orchestra consists of daily rehearsals and weekly group lessons. Educational emphasis is placed on the development of instrumental technique, music reading and comprehension skills, independent musicianship, and style. Throughout the course, students will develop fundamental rehearsal skills, technique, basic theory knowledge, and sight-reading skills. Students will be responsible for the preparation of ensemble music, lesson assignments, daily home practice, and multiple concerts/events throughout the year. Most students take this course their first year and second of high school and then continue to take Sinfonietta String Orchestra their junior and senior year. It also opens the door to other musical opportunities.
