On May 28, David Brearley Middle and High School hosted its annual blood drive, providing an opportunity for students, teachers, and community members to come together and support a cause that can save lives.
Throughout the day, donors checked in, completed questionnaires and screenings, and donated blood with the help of trained professionals and nurses.
Blood donations are essential for hospitals when treating patients, performing surgeries, and responding to illnesses and other emergencies. Each donation can help multiple people, which makes every contribution extremely valuable.
For many students, it was their first time donating — and it could be your first time too! Many students feel nervous and don’t want to, which is normal, but the process is safe, quick, and closely supervised the entire time you’re there. Most donors, including myself, find that the waiting is more intimidating than the donation itself. Most donations only take a few minutes, and with time to rest and eat afterwards, you’ll find that most of the process is quite manageable.
Donating blood is a simple experience, and it can make a lifesaving difference!
