The holiday season is quickly approaching, and one of the significant upcoming holidays is Thanksgiving, which falls on November 25. With that date coming fast, people across the country are beginning to ponder what dishes they will prepare for themselves and their guests. We all know the favorites—turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, bread rolls with butter, gravy, cranberry sauce, and apple pie. These dishes are commonly found on tables across America during Thanksgiving. Here are several less common but easy-to-prepare dishes that will fit perfectly for Thanksgiving and other holidays.
Recipe #1: Roasted Pumpkin With Feta And Honey
Preparation Time: 30-40 minutes
Ingredients:
A Butternut Pumpkin
Honey
Olive Oil
Balsamic Vinegar
Feta Cheese
Salt
Pepper
Steps:
Preheat oven to 415 degrees Fahrenheit
Cut up the pumpkin and shape the inside into cubes
Drizzle oil and bake the pumpkin cubes for around 20 minutes
After 20 minutes, take the cubes out and season with salt and pepper
Bake for an additional 10 minutes
Remove from the oven and add honey, balsamic vinegar, and feta cheese on top
DONE!!! Can be served either hot or cold
What This Brings To The Table: This recipe is a very unique taste as pumpkin is not a common ingredient in recipes. Making this will catch a lot of attention and be something different from the traditional dishes brought.
Recipe #2: Greek Lemon Potatoes
Preparation Time: 50-60 minutes
Ingredients:
Mini Potatoes
Lemon Juice
Olive Oil
Honey Mustard
Dried Oregano
Salt
Pepper
Steps:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit
Add sliced potatoes into a bowl and drench them in all of the seasonings listed (lemon juice, olive oil, honey mustard, dried oregano, salt, pepper). Make sure all potatoes are thoroughly covered.
Bake potatoes for around 45 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
DONE!! Best when served hot.
What This Brings To The Table: This recipe is one of my favorites, as it goes really well with most Thanksgiving dishes. The side dish brings together many spices and is a cornerstone of Mediterranean cuisine.
Recipe #3: Apple Dumplings
Preparation Time: 50 - 60 minutes
Ingredients:
Apples
Butter
Crescent Roll Dough
Cinnamon
Salt
Light Brown Sugar
Apple Brandy
Steps:
Slice the apples into 8 pieces each and roll the dough around the apple into a dumpling shape.
Bake the dumplings until they are golden brown.
Combine butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, brandy, and salt in a saucepan and heat until it starts to boil.
Pour the mixture over the dough-wrapped apples and make sure they are all covered evenly.
Bake the dumplings for 10 minutes
DONE!!! Best served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
What This Brings To The Table: If you are like me and like the taste of apples, but aren’t a fan of pie, these are a fantastic addition to the traditional Thanksgiving desserts. They are also easier to make compared to an apple pie.
