After the 2025–2026 season, the Brearley boys' basketball team finished with a better record than last year: 7–14 overall and 3–7 in UCC Valley. They had some standout performances and several key contributors who improved the team compared with last year.
The boys started their season with two strong wins. On December 17, they traveled to Somerset Tech and held off the Jaguars for a 66–61 victory. The next day they began conference play, taking on Roselle Park and winning 57–48. Throughout the season they experienced ups and downs, but they earned key wins over Governor Livingston and Roselle Park again, which helped their conference record.
Although this may not have been the outcome they hoped for, the boys showcased talent and cohesiveness on the court. They were led by several standouts, including sophomore Ryan Nelson (12), who averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds per game. His tenacity and passion throughout the game stood out, and the rest of the team fed off his energy. Brody (3) and Tyler Zawacki (5) were also a powerful one‑two punch who could score from anywhere. They were active on defense as well, with Brody averaging 2.5 steals per game. Beyond these three, the rest of the team also contributed significantly to put the program in a better position than last year.
As we look back on the highs and lows of the season, the boys continued to put in hard work, effort, and commitment for one another. Be sure to congratulate the team, especially the seniors, on their season — and come support them next year. Go Bears!
