Halloween is sneaking up faster than expected, but don’t worry if you don’t have a costume yet! Whether you’re going solo, teaming up with a friend, or coordinating a group look, here are some easy and recognizable costumes you could try.
Solo Costumes:
Winnie the Pooh: Throw on a red t-shirt, yellow pants or leggings, and bear ears. If you don’t have bear ears lying around, you can easily make them out of some paper and a headband! Carry a small “Hunny” pot or jar for the finishing touch.
SpongeBob SquarePants: All you need is a white button-up shirt, brown shorts, white knee-high socks, and a red tie. Throw on a belt if you need one, and carry a spatula to complete the look.
Alien: This costume is perfect if you have face paint! Any metallic or neon clothing works, and simply painting your face green or silver completes the outfit. To really look out of this world, make antennas out of pipe cleaners and a headband, and you’re ready to go trick-or-treating!
Duo Costumes:
Snoopy and Charlie Brown: For Charlie Brown, wear a yellow shirt with a black zigzag stripe and black shorts. Snoopy just needs all white clothes, black ears (an easy craft to make out of paper and a headband), and maybe a little black nose drawn on with eyeliner.
Flo (from Progressive) and Jake (from State Farm): Flo’s outfit is a simple white polo, white pants, a blue headband, and a “Progressive” name tag that can be made with paper. Jake wears a red polo, khakis, and a “Hello, my name is Jake” tag.
Alex and Steve from Minecraft: This costume can be easily made with clothes you might already have! Alex wears a green top and brown bottoms, while Steve has a teal top with jean bottoms. For an extra touch, you can print out or draw a hotbar with an inventory, health, and hunger bar, and tape it onto your shirt.
Group Costumes:
Mario Characters: Dress up as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, or any other character you can think of! Overalls, colored shirts, and the corresponding hat for your character are all you need.
Britney Spears Eras: Each friend can pick an iconic Britney look! Some options include her music video schoolgirl outfit, her red jumpsuit from “Oops! I Did It Again,” or a blue skirt, top, and hat as her flight attendant outfit in “Toxic.”
Children’s Book Characters: This is a perfect costume if you want something creative and cute! Be the Rainbow Fish with shiny or sequined clothes, Cat in the Hat with a striped hat and bow tie over a black outfit, Pinkalicious in pink everything (especially a tutu), or Pete the Cat in blue or yellow with cat ears. You can simplify almost any popular character, like the mouse from “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” or Fancy Nancy.
With a few closet staples, some craft supplies, and creativity, you can turn anything into a recognizable costume. These last-minute looks are fun, comfortable, and sure to impress. Happy Halloween!
