The David Brearley Thrive Club offers many activities to help our school community thrive mentally. One fun event is their annual Wellness Fair on Friday, January 23. The Wellness Fair gives students a chance to decompress and take part in enjoyable, calming activities before midterms begin the following week. Led by Mrs. Forcht and Dr. Lavine, the Thrive Club is coming together to organize thoughtful ideas that will make the Wellness Fair a relaxing environment for everyone at Brearley.
Below are some activities happening at the Wellness Fair this week:
Coloring pages — Many people use coloring books or loose sheets to calm and satisfy their minds. Coloring is a popular coping strategy for stress, making it one of the fair’s most requested activities.
DIY stress balls — When someone loses their temper or becomes overstimulated, they may feel like punching a wall. Instead of doing that, they can release emotions by squeezing a stress ball. Making and using a stress ball can help teens decompress and is also entertaining.
DIY flowers — Flowers are a beautiful part of nature, and crafting paper flowers can be very soothing. This is a calming activity students can enjoy while preparing for stressful times like midterms.
Friendship bracelets — A classic favorite: students can make bracelets for themselves and friends using different colored beads. Jewelry-making keeps the hands and mind occupied, which can help people stay focused and calm.
