Girls Basketball Update

With a 7–1 record to start the season, the Brearley girls’ basketball team has surpassed expectations. Their only loss came to Bernards in the first round of the Metuchen Holiday Tournament; otherwise, the team has maintained its success, remaining undefeated in the UCC–Valley division at 5–0 under Coaches Ryan and Karnitsky.
The Lady Bears have been driven by several key contributors, particularly center Georgia Sode. Through the Bears’ first eight games, she has averaged a double-double, with 26 points and 15 rebounds per game, along with nearly 3 blocks per game. Senior guard Mackenzie Seifried has scored 92 points and recorded 35 steals this season; her steals lead all of Union County. Led by these players and the rest of the varsity supporting cast, the team has been very successful.
The girls hope to carry this momentum through the remainder of the season, especially in games against division rivals. The team is also preparing for the county and state tournaments, with the goal of bringing a title back to Brearley. Come support the Lady Bears on Thursday, January 22, as they travel to Roselle Park, and on Saturday, January 24 at home vs. St. Dominic’s Academy. Go Bears!
