As the midway point of the season approaches for the Brearley boys’ basketball team, it’s time to check in on where the squad stands. The team is currently 5–5 overall and 2–3 in the UCC — Valley division. Some wins have been nail-biters that came down to the buzzer, creating a great atmosphere for fans and players, while some losses have served as learning moments.
Throughout the first half of the season, the Bears have had several key contributors. Senior forward Tyler Zawacki has been strong on both ends of the floor, averaging 9.2 points per game and nearly 2 steals per game. Sophomore Ryan Nelson has led the team in scoring with 119 points this season, including a career-high 27 against Governor Livingston. Other important contributors include forward Greg Scalise and Brody Zawacki. Beyond these players, the rest of the varsity roster has shown skill and competitiveness against talented opponents across the first ten games of the season.
The boys hope to build on the momentum from their most recent win over Newark Vocational as they aim to enter the state tournament with a winning record compared to last season. Come support Brearley basketball as they return home on Thursday, January 22, against Dayton. Show up, pack the gym, and support the team. Go Bears!
