Lots of students question what they can do in their school community or outside of school. Instead of sitting around after school and doing nothing, there are several activities to get involved in. Being active in your school community benefits you in many ways! It can help make you mentally healthier by putting yourself out into the world, and getting involved can honestly make you feel really good inside. Clubs allow you to make new friends, build relationships with teachers, and express yourself in a fun way. There are many ways to become active during your school year, so here are some options!
Signing Up for Clubs
Ever have a hobby you may be interested in, such as singing, playing games, or writing? Signing up for clubs that match your interests is an amazing way to get involved. If you find things you love that are offered as clubs at Brearley, don’t hesitate to sign up! There’s nothing to lose by joining anything you see if you’re genuinely interested, and it can benefit you in the long run.
Trying Out for Sports
If you’re an athlete who loves nothing more than playing your favorite sport, from football to gymnastics, Brearley has many sports! Trying out for a sport is an excellent way to become active outside of your academics. Colleges can recognize and possibly recruit you for your talent, and playing a sport also allows you to get good exercise, which benefits your mental health. You can also make many friends through sports, developing lifelong connections that stem from a common goal or passion.
Build Relationships with Your Teachers
If you’re not the type of person who enjoys clubs or sports, being active in your school can simply mean maintaining a positive attitude and smile. Showing teachers and peers respect will help you in the long run, enabling you to do well in school and potentially securing letters of recommendation for college. Being active in class with your teachers involves participating in discussions, asking questions, and showing respect for your teachers and classmates.
Being active in the school community is very important. Even doing the simplest things shows you're a dedicated member of Brearley! Everyone has their own hobbies and interests, but they can help benefit you throughout the school year.
