The 60th Super Bowl delivered competition, amusement, and an astonishing performance by Puerto Rican, Grammy-winning musician Bad Bunny, who headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show. From the start of his set, Bad Bunny incorporated Caribbean motifs such as tropical stage colors, palm trees, small businesses (like barbershops and bodegas), and choreography rooted in reggaetón culture that emphasized the artist’s Puerto Rican heritage. Overall, the performance made viewers feel as if they had stepped into the Caribbean—Bad Bunny brought that culture onto America’s biggest screens. As someone not well versed in Puerto Rican culture, I felt his performance revealed the history and beauty of an island often obscured by stereotypes and insufficiently acknowledged in society.
Despite the cultural focus, Bad Bunny sang entirely in Spanish, showcasing songs from his newer album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, along with a selection of older hits. Some of these songs include MONACO, Titi Me Pregunto, EoO, BAILE INoLVIDABLE, and DtMF. Additionally, Bad Bunny brought out special guests such as Puerto Rican singer‑songwriter Ricky Martin and American singer Lady Gaga, who delivered an astonishing contribution with songs like “Die With a Smile” and “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii.” From his full 15‑minute set, my favorite moment was when Bad Bunny displayed flags from North and South American nations and honored each country individually to show appreciation for their cultures. What stayed with me most was when he looked directly at the screen and said, “If I’m here today at the Super Bowl, it’s because I never stopped believing in myself — and you should believe in yourself too. You are worth more than you think.” His message encourages fans like me that self‑belief and honoring your individuality can help you accomplish many good things in life despite obstacles.
Finally, during the performance he staged a grand wedding that we later learned was a real wedding. No one in the history of Super Bowl Halftime Shows had ever done something so unexpected. Bad Bunny’s halftime show included so many twists and turns that it left viewers at home and in the stadium on the edge of their seats.
