PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGY

Performance Psychology will explore performance from a psychological perspective in diverse areas such as academics, sports, creative pursuits, work performance, and leadership. Topics to be considered: various theories pertaining to motivation, the role of emotion and personality on performance, stress management, optimal levels of arousal for performance tasks, the effect of cultural values and expectations, and other psychological variables that influence performance. Both the benefits of optimal performance and maladaptive responses to failure and success will be explored and interventions considered. Students will investigate and practice psychological techniques which can enhance performance. Students will learn about conducting research including gathering and analyzing data.
