Music Theory provides students with an understanding of the fundamentals of music and includes one or more of the following topics: composition, arrangement, analysis, aural development, and sight reading.

Beginning Music Theory is designed to be an introduction to the concepts of literacy and composition. Music Theory courses extend and build upon students’ knowledge of intervals, scales, chords, metric/rhythmic patterns, and the ways they interact in a composition. Musical notation, analysis, composition, and aural skills are important components of the course.
